Ali attended Wellesley College where she majored in art history. The magazine she worked for was Fashion after graduating. Her interest in fashion photography led her to become a top model, a profession she carried on till 1968. In that year, she began a slow but steady start in what turned out to be a sporadic film career, mainly due to her wedding to Steve McQueen. The films she produced had a high success rate or did not. Today the former actress lives within New Mexico in a modest way.
